Assistant Accountant

Join a well-established organisation as an Assistant Accountant. This permanent role offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven individual to develop professionally within a busy finance team. Working closely with the Management Accountant, you will provide essential support across ledgers, month-end processes, reporting, and general finance operations.
Day-to-day of the role:
Ledgers & Cashbook:
- Post and reconcile group bank accounts.
- Raise ad-hoc invoices and process large consolidated invoice imports.
- Conduct timely credit control for all raised invoices.
- Create new ledger accounts and issue new contracts/service agreements.
- Send customer communications, post journals, including monthly accruals and prepayments.
- Prepare weekly BACS runs for approval and upload, and issue supplier remittances.
- Complete month-end closure of group ledgers and data transfer to the nominal ledger.
Month-End Accounts:
- Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register.
- Post depreciation and prepayment journals, and maintain schedules.
- Prepare accruals and post to the nominal ledger.
- Support the Management Accountant in producing the management accounts pack.
- Assist in variance investigation and reporting.
General Duties:
- Produce analysis and reports as required.
- Support colleagues and provide departmental cover when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with finance and GDPR regulations.
- Uphold strong Health & Safety practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- AAT qualification or relevant demonstrable experience.
- Willingness to continue progressing toward CIMA/ACCA (study support available).
- Strong Excel skills.
- Experience using accounting systems (Pegasus Opera desirable).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Understanding of GDPR and data privacy standards.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, analytical mindset.
- Enjoys problem-solving and taking ownership of tasks.
- Works well under pressure, meeting deadlines with accuracy.
- Comfortable working both independently and within a team.
- Confident using IT systems.
