Tara Education Recruitment are working in partnership with a well-established and highly regarded specialist SEND secondary school based in North West London, conveniently located close to both tube and bus routes, to appoint a Teacher of Sport for a full-time, long-term position starting after the Easter break.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Teacher of Sport to join a school that is recognised for its strong leadership, excellent resources, and commitment to inclusive, personalised education for pupils with complex needs.

The Role

This is a teaching position (not support), requiring a confident and adaptable Teacher of Sport who can deliver engaging and accessible physical education lessons within a SEND environment.

  • Teaching Sport/PE across Key Stages 3–5
  • Adapting lessons as a Teacher of Sport to meet a wide range of needs including SLD, PMLD, and Autism
  • Incorporating functional movement, physical development, and sensory-based activities
  • Supporting pupils with varying communication styles and physical abilities
  • Contributing to a broader timetable where required (light cover or additional subjects depending on need)

The successful Teacher of Sport will be flexible and team-oriented, with the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the school.

The School Environment

The school supports pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and complex communication and sensory needs.

You will be working as a Teacher of Sport within a setting that places strong emphasis on specialist facilities and adapted sports provision, high staff-to-pupil ratios, a collaborative approach with therapists and support staff, and structured routines with personalised learning pathways.

The school is well-resourced and supportive, with on-site parking available for staff and visitors, alongside excellent public transport links.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a qualified Teacher of Sport who holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), has a strong background in Physical Education or Sport (e.g. BSc, PGCE, or equivalent), and has essential experience within SEND settings.

A strong Teacher of Sport will be confident adapting lessons for pupils with complex and diverse needs, proactive and flexible in approach, and able to contribute to a wider school timetable where required (cover based work). A genuine passion for inclusive sport and understanding of its impact on development and wellbeing is key.

Requirements
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) – essential
  • Relevant academic background in Sport / Physical Education
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one via us)
  • 2 years of professional references
  • Availability for a video interview between now and 27th March
  • Ability to attend a trial/visit day before half term or in the first week back
  • Availability to start after Easter (April 13th)
Pay & Contract
  • £180–£250 per day (PAYE) depending on experience
  • In line with school pay scales (MPS/UPS equivalent)
  • Full-time, long-term position (5 days per week)
  • Strong potential to move into a permanent contract
