A growing, forward-thinking UK construction and development group is seeking an experienced Head of Sustainability & Environment to lead the evolution of its sustainability strategy, ESG performance, and net-carbon commitments.

This is a high-impact leadership role with group-wide responsibility for shaping long-term sustainability ambitions and embedding them into everyday operations.

The Role

As the Head of Sustainability & Environment, you will:

  • Develop and deliver a refreshed sustainability and ESG strategy across the group.
  • Lead the creation of baseline environmental and social impact data and introduce clear performance targets.
  • Influence senior leaders and secure commitment to sustainable decision-making across all business units.
  • Act as a trusted internal advisor on sustainability, ESG, and social value.
  • Oversee group-wide reporting, data collection, and progress tracking against targets.
  • Represent the organisation externally as a spokesperson on sustainability and social value matters.
  • Build relationships with NGOs, industry bodies, local authorities, and policy stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external communications to raise visibility of the company’s sustainability efforts.

About You

You will bring:

  • Strong experience developing and implementing sustainability and/or ESG strategies.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change at a strategic level.
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence representing an organisation internally and externally.
  • Understanding of ESG expectations from investors, regulators and wider stakeholders.
  • Strong project management capability and a results-driven approach.

Desirable Background

  • Experience within construction, development, infrastructure, or a related field.
  • Degree qualified with relevant professional accreditation (e.g., MIEMA, CEnv).
  • Full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
