GMP Recruitment are proud to be in partnership with a highly respected engineering company based in the Birmingham area, renowned for their expertise in heavy industrial manufacturing. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for a CNC Lathe Turning Operator to join their Machine Shop on a full-time, permanent basis.

This role offers a competitive starting salary of £34,000 per annum dependant on experience, with structured hours to support ongoing production demands. It represents an excellent opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented machinist to work on complex, large-scale components in a safety-led, precision-driven environment.

Our client operates in a demanding engineering sector, supporting industries that rely on accurate machining and robust quality standards. They are seeking an experienced manual lathe and boring operator with the capability to handle large components and work within tight tolerances.

CNC Lathe Turning Operator Main Responsibilities:

* Interpret detailed 2D engineering drawings, specifications, and route card instructions.

* Plan and execute machining operations including:

* Selecting appropriate machines, tooling, and clamping methods.

* Setting speeds, feeds, pressures, and using correct lubricants.

* Sequencing tasks for optimal efficiency and accuracy.

* Conduct dimensional inspection and component layout prior to machining.

* Operate manual lathes and deep hole boring machines.

* Program basic operations using Siemens CNC controls where applicable.

* Inspect components at all machining stages to ensure adherence to quality standards.

* Perform adjustments, troubleshooting, and final inspection.

* Carry out deburring and prepare components for safe movement.

* Use overhead cranes for material handling (LOLER training provided).

* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workstation through TPM activities (coolant/oiling/greasing/swarf removal).

* Monitor and maintain tooling and consumable stock levels.

* Complete accurate job bookings and documentation in line with production requirements.

* Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols.

* Support apprentices and trainees where appropriate.

CNC Lathe Turning Operator required skills and experience:

* Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on machining experience.

* Minimum 2 years' experience operating manual lathes and/or deep hole boring equipment (preferably on large-scale machines).

* Competency in interpreting complex engineering drawings and machining specifications.

* Understanding of Siemens control systems for basic CNC programming.

* Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and patience.

* Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.

* Experience with lifting/slinging and working within heavy engineering environments.

* Solid understanding of Health & Safety practices and risk awareness in industrial settings.
