Payroll Specialist (Part-Time)

Location: London, office-based

We are working with a well-established organisation to recruit a Payroll Specialist to support their payroll function on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional looking for reduced hours while remaining hands-on in a collaborative, office-based environment.

Working pattern options:

• 3 days per week, office-based (full working days), or
• 5 days per week, office-based on a reduced-hours basis (for example 9:30am–2:30pm)

Salary: £50,000–£60,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience.

The Role

Reporting into the senior finance team, the Payroll Specialist will take ownership of day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high level of service to employees.

Key responsibilities include:

• End-to-end payroll processing, working with external payroll providers where applicable
• Ensuring payroll is delivered accurately and on time in line with agreed deadlines
• Managing payroll changes including starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, benefits, and statutory payments
• Handling payroll queries and acting as a key point of contact for employees
• Completing payroll reconciliations and supporting month-end processes
• Maintaining strong controls and ensuring compliance with current payroll legislation
• Supporting payroll-related projects and process improvements as required

About You

• Proven experience in a payroll-focused role, ideally within a complex or multi-entity environment
• Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, NIC, pensions, and statutory payments
• Highly detail-oriented with excellent organisational and time management skills
• Confident working with payroll systems and Excel
• Professional, approachable, and comfortable working in an office-based team environment

A payroll qualification is desirable but not essential if supported by strong practical experience.
