Residential Childcare Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Residential Childcare Officer to join our fantastic client in Sunderland. This role is crucial in providing high-quality care and support to young people, adhering to our vision, mission, and therapeutic approach. The ideal candidate will be committed, professional, and resilient, especially during demanding times.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop abilities of young people through life-long learning, adhering to our code of conduct and current legislation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and develop person-centred relationships, fulfilling Key Worker responsibilities professionally.
  • Support young people in their daily lives, assisting with personal hygiene, nutritional choices, and medication administration in line with our policies.
  • Accompany young people to appointments, support their basic care needs, and engage in leisure activities both inside and outside the home.
  • Ensure the home environment is secure, clean, and well-presented, undertaking domestic chores and health and safety checks as necessary.
  • Use Positive Intervention Support Planning to help manage challenging behaviours and maintain professional record-keeping in line with national standards.
  • Work collaboratively within the team, share responsibilities, and support continuous professional development for self and others.
  • Undertake sleep-in duties and work flexibly on a 24-hour rota system to meet the needs of the young people.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have a Residential Childcare Level 3 qualification.
  • Strong IT skills, as our computer system is used for 99% of our case recording.
  • Experience in residential childcare and understanding of relevant legislation and safeguarding requirements.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a high degree of professionalism and resilience.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to maintain positive professional relationships.
