Learning Support Assistant (Specialist – Autism Support)

Location: KentHours: 15 hours a week, term time only, additional temporary hours for group work for the right candidate. Flexible hours to be agreed with school.Contract: Part-time, flexible within the school daySalary: £13.68 - £15.68 (Dependent on experience)

Reed Education is delighted to be working on behalf of a respected secondary school to recruit a Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated support for a student with Autistic Spectrum Condition. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping a young person engage fully in their learning and school life.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Support the student in accessing learning across the curriculum.
  • Deliver individual therapy programmes under specialist guidance.
  • Assist with social and emotional development, both in class and during unstructured times.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
  • Help implement SEND Code of Practice requirements and promote inclusive practices.
  • Monitor progress, keep accurate records, and contribute to reviews and reports.
  • Provide specialist support during tests and examinations.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and positive interaction with peers.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A good standard of education, including strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience supporting students with autism and/or sensory needs in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and SEND legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt to changing situations.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with parents and external agencies.
  • Ability to deliver small group interventions.
  • Strong influencing skills to encourage social interaction and responsibility.
