Brighton College is seeking to appoint a School Bus Supervisor (City Zone)

Reporting to: Deputy Transport Manager

Main purpose of the role: To ensure the safe and orderly boarding, travel, and departure of pupils on the school bus. The Bus Supervisor will greet children, carry out registration, ensure all pupils are seated and wearing seat belts, maintain a calm and secure environment during the journey, and act as a keypoint of contact for parents regarding their child’s transport experience.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome children as they board the bus.
  • Carry out a daily register to ensure all assigned pupils are present.
  • Assist children with seating and ensure seat belts are fastened securely.
  • Monitor behaviour and ensure safety rules are followed throughout the journey.
  • Support children with any needs during the journey (e.g., comfort, reassurance).
  • Ensure children depart safely and are handed over to the appropriate adult.

Liaise with parents and guardians regularly to:

  • Communicate any delays, changes to the route, or other logistical issues.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with families to foster trust and cooperation.
  • Respond to minor concerns or questions in a professional and timely manner.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

Essential:

  • Friendly, caring, and patient with young children.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in unexpected situations.
  • Comfortable speaking with parents and maintaining confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with children.
  • Basic first aid knowledge.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding procedures.
  • Previous experience in a school or transport setting.

Hours of Work:

This role will be 20 hours per week across a split shift, working from 7.00am to 9.00am and 4.30pm to 6.30pm Monday to Friday inclusive. This will be a term-time (35 week) appointment.

Remuneration:

The salary for this role is £9,979 per annum, this is at an hourly rate of £12.72.

Holidays:

Holiday entitlement is included in the salary for this role. All holiday is to be taken outside of the working weeks.
