Systems Engineer Sr

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in Colorado Springs, CO has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer focused on engineering activities for the Survivable Endurable Missile Warning Program Office. This individual will have experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based sensing systems and ground-based system survivability. Candidate will provide SE&I support to the Fixed Survivable Systems Project Manager in support of the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Enterprise, a development program at the Air Force Space and Missile System Center (SMC). Candidate will support requirements development and acquisition management activities to include requirements traceability analysis, change impact analysis, technical baseline integration, verification planning and execution, and risk management. Candidate should have experience with system acquisition and systems engineering lifecycle for space and ground systems (especially at SMC). Major duties of the position include:

• Integrate, control and coordinate acquisition activities for survivable fixed site upgrades and new acquisitions

• Draft/refine implementation concepts and fiscal planning documents

• Draft and refine Government Requests for Proposal for upgrades and acquisition activities and perform analytical technical evaluations of contractor proposals to support establishing Government position in contract negotiations

• Create and maintain the detailed Survivable Systems One Voice Schedule

• Manage the technical baseline for survivable fixed site upgrade and acquisition programs

• Provide engineering support and analysis for managing/sustaining survivable fixed site interfaces

• Establish and maintain programs and processes for effective requirements documentation, integration, and verification across space and ground hardware and software within the SBIRS system of systems

• Interact with the development contractor and government leads to ensure that all system requirements and interfaces are consistent and valid across the enterprise

• Maintain the technical baseline, including coordinating with development contractors to manage configuration and changes for system specifications, engineering documentation and interface documents

• Apply systems engineering processes to support effective integration, verification, and system transition efforts

• Manage risks for multiple programs as well as developing risk mitigation courses of action

• Develop acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation in support of decision making

• Collaborate with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force



• Bachelor's Degree is required. BS in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical, Communications Engineering (technical), Math, Physics, or similar. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate degree in an engineering or space-related field with a minimum of 10 years space-related experience is acceptable

• 10 years of experience in acquisition management, space operations and/or systems engineering. Prefer experience that spans the entire system lifecycle, including sustainment

• Demonstrated acquisition experience working with Air Force/DoD customers on Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems and ground and space system acquisition

• Strong understanding of fundamental requirements development and management processes, to include interface management and development/maintenance of Interface Control Documents

• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering

• Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings

• Strong interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams

• Ability to travel periodically

Desired Qualifications

• Master's Degree or a minimum of 18 years space operational experience is preferred

• SBIRS and/or Nuclear Detonation Detection System operations, acquisition and/or sustainment experience highly desirable

• Experience with Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment Systems highly desirable
Experience with Space-based Infrared Systems is desirable
