Your New Role

As Head of English, you'll lead the strategic vision for English and Literacy across the school while also delivering outstanding classroom teaching. You'll shape a curriculum that prioritises accessibility, progression, and success for students with dyslexia and related needs. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Curriculum Leadership
  • Staff Development & Quality Assurance
  • Student Wellbeing & Learning Behaviours
  • Faculty Management
  • Classroom Teaching

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will:

  • Deliver engaging, dyslexia-friendly English lessons
  • Teach using multisensory, phonics-based, and literacy-boosting approaches
  • Adapt lessons to varied abilities and specific learning profiles
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group literacy support
  • Use assistive technologies (e.g., text-to-speech, word processors)
  • Assess progress regularly and use data to plan next steps
  • Collaborate closely with learning support teams

Wider Contribution

  • Acting as a Form Tutor and supporting the pastoral development of your tutor group
  • Contributing to the PSHE curriculum
  • Participating in supervisory duties, including occasional weekends
  • Contributing fully to extra-curricular and whole-school activities
  • Upholding the school's ethos, values, and professional expectations

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Strong subject knowledge in English and literacy
  • Proven experience teaching English, ideally up to GCSE or beyond

  • A track record of leading or contributing to curriculum development
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence using assessment data to inform improvement
  • A collaborative, flexible leadership style
