Management Accountant | Winchester – On Site | Permanent | £50k - £60k

We are supporting a well-established organisation in Winchester in their search for a Management Accountant to join their finance team.

This is a hands-on role with real impact, focused on strengthening financial controls, improving processes and ensuring the finance function operates efficiently and is fully audit-ready. You’ll work closely with senior leadership while supporting and developing a small finance team.

The Role

This position will take ownership of financial controls, reconciliations and month-end processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency and ongoing audit readiness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and continuously improving financial controls and reconciliation processes
  • Leading month-end close, including management accounts and variance analysis
  • Preparing audit schedules and supporting year-end audit processes (FRS102/SORP)
  • Supervising and developing a small finance team (AP, Payroll, Accounts)
  • Strengthening processes across journals, payments, coding and control procedures
  • Overseeing income, billing and debtor management processes, including fee income and associated reconciliations
  • Supporting processes around fee billing and VAT treatment, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Driving ongoing process improvements and efficiencies across the finance function

About You

You will be a hands-on and detail-oriented finance professional with strong experience in controls, reconciliations and audit processes.

You will likely have:

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification (or part-qualified)
  • Strong background in financial controls and reconciliations
  • Experience delivering month-end and audit processes
  • Previous experience supervising or supporting junior team members
  • Strong Excel and systems skills
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience within an education environment (ideally independent schools), with exposure to fee income, billing and VAT on fees, is essential
