About the Role

We are working on behalf of a successful and forward-thinking secondary school in Rainham (RM13) to recruit an experienced and inspirational Head of Science. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious science specialist to lead a high-performing department across KS3, KS4, and Sixth Form.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, a passion for science education, and a proven ability to raise standards and deliver outstanding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Science, you will:

• Lead, manage and develop the Science department across KS3–KS5
• Drive high-quality teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• Oversee curriculum design, assessment, and departmental improvement planning
• Support and mentor science teachers and technicians
• Monitor student progress and implement strategies to maximise achievement
• Ensure high standards of behaviour, safety, and engagement within the department
• Contribute to whole-school leadership initiatives

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach across a range of year groups, which may include:

• Years 7–11 (KS3 & KS4)
• Years 12–13 (Sixth Form)

• A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with strong subject knowledge
• Proven experience within science leadership or a readiness to step into a HoD role
• Ability to inspire staff and students alike
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Commitment to raising standards and promoting excellence
