Pastoral Assistant - Supporting Young Lives to Thrive

Location: Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only
Salary: £20,000 - £24,000 (dependent on experience)

Who You Are:

You're the kind of person who sees beyond behaviour and instinctively asks, “What's really going on here?”
You believe that every young person deserves a chance—especially those who've struggled in mainstream education. You're calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, and have an innate ability to build trust, even with the most guarded of students.

You might be:

*

A youth worker, teaching assistant, or mentor ready for a new challenge

*

Someone with experience in care, mental health support, or social services

*

Or even a parent or carer who just gets it when a young person is having a tough time

About Us:

We're a nurturing Alternative Provision based in the heart of Tewkesbury, providing tailored education and holistic support to young people aged 11-16 who've been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. Our students are incredible individuals, often carrying heavy burdens—and our mission is to help them rebuild, reset, and reach their potential.

What You'll Do:

As our Pastoral Assistant, you'll be a vital part of the support team, working alongside teachers, mental health professionals, and families to ensure students feel safe, seen, and supported.

Your days will include:

*

Offering 1:1 and small group support to help students manage emotions and behaviours

*

Acting as a trusted adult for young people needing a listening ear or a gentle nudge

*

Helping to implement pastoral plans, risk assessments, and positive behaviour strategies

*

Working closely with families and external agencies to provide wraparound care

*

Supporting the daily rhythm of the provision—whether that's checking in with students, helping during social times, or de-escalating a situation with calm confidence

What You Bring:

*

A passion for working with vulnerable or at-risk young people

*

Strong communication, de-escalation, and relationship-building skills

*

Patience, resilience, and a sense of humour

*

An understanding of trauma-informed practice or a willingness to learn

*

Previous experience in a pastoral, care, or education setting (desirable but not essential)

What Our Team Says:

“You don't work here for an easy life—you work here because you care. And when you see a student who used to storm out every day finally sit through a lesson? That's why we do it.”

How to Apply:

If you're ready to be the steady hand that helps a young person find their footing, we'd love to hear from you
