Payroll And Pension Analyst

SALARY: £15 - £18.69/hour

Royal Holloway, University of London are looking for a Payroll and Pension Analyst to join their team.

The post holder will be responsible to the Payroll Pensions Manager for the efficient and effective operation of the College payroll and pension functions in accordance with University and statutory requirements.
This includes assisting the payroll and pensions team, prioritising workload to meet deadlines, ensuring appropriate attention to detail, resolving queries and dealing with a wide cross section of University staff.
Key Tasks
General tasks
• Deputise for the Payroll Pension Manager as needed, review work schedules and ensure appropriate cover for absence.
• Deal with any day-to-day service quality and overall resource allocation and prioritisation issues as required.
Maintenance of payroll records and the payroll system
• The timely and accurate input of payroll amendments, checking of input, calculation of pay adjustments, maintenance of payroll records and assisting in the maintenance of the payroll bureau application, including the updating of background parameters.
• Supporting the best practice use of the system and responsible for testing upgrades
• Responsible for setting up payroll elements accurately
Processing of monthly payroll and pension returns
• In liaison with the team, responsible for the running of the pay process, including BACS and costing creation, production of payroll reports, checking the payroll and timely and accurate reconciliation of payroll balances on the general ledger.
• Effective and accurate processing of pension contributions in liaison with the team
• Extraction and submission of accurate data for the pension funds as required.
• Perform monthly pension reconciliations
• Maintain relationships with pension providers and deal with their day to day queries
Providing advice and responding to staff queries
• Primary point of contact for provision of advice to employees on more complex matters relating to pay and to statutory and other deductions; resolving queries as appropriate

• Liaison with External Organisations, the HR Systems and HR Team as appropriate.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to the above, the following is expected of the post holder;
• Maintain all-round payroll and pension's expertise.
• Responsible for checking all manual payments (third party, cheque payments, advance payments
• Responsible for debt management and prior year adjustments
• Maintain detailed knowledge of the statutory requirements including those relating to payments through the payroll, salary sacrifice, national insurance,PAYE and pensions,undertaking CPD as required.
• Maintain an appropriate level of technical knowledge and develop and maintain a sufficient level of skill to utilise standard job related computer applications (Zellis ResourceLink and Agresso); proficiency with the appropriate MS Office applications.The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time as dictated by the changing needs of the University and the post holder may be required to work at any of the locations at which the business of Royal Holloway is conducted.
Internal and external relationships
The following list is not exhaustive and the post holder will be required to liaise with;
all University employees, Human Resources, Finance staff, USS, SAUL, Benefits Agency and HMRC.

Educated to GSCE level or equivalent - Essential

Excellent administrative skills - Essential
Proficient user of MS Office applications. Excellent Excel skills. Confident with manipulating and analysing complex data - Essential
A good understanding and experience of computerised payroll systems and principles - Essential
Ability to analyse, interpret, reconcile and communicate complex payroll issues - Essential
A good knowledge of pension procedures ideally within public sector/education and/or a sound understanding of workplace pensions and auto enrolment requirements - Essential
Experience in carrying out month end, and annual pension and payroll reconciliations - Essential
Ability to read and understand written procedures verifying the requirements and confident in working with minimal supervision - Essential
Excellent attention to detail, with good concentration levels, and a methodical approach to checking payroll - Essential
Excellent communication and customer service skills - Essential
Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team - Essential
Strong time management skills, ability to meet deadlines - Essential

Good working knowledge and experience of payroll in a large or complex organisation - Essential
Proven experience of pension administration and reconciliations - Essential
Experience working with Pension schemes auto enrolment compliance and up to date legislative knowledge - Essential
Knowledge of current payroll and pensions legislative and compliance requirements - Essential
