About the RoleA local authority housing service in the Hackney area is seeking an experienced Gardener to join their Housing Grounds Maintenance team.
This is a hands-on outdoor role where you’ll help maintain and improve communal green spaces across residential estates, ensuring they remain safe, attractive and environmentally sustainable for residents.

Key Responsibilities Maintain communal estate green spaces including grass cutting, shrub pruning and seasonal planting
Operate horticultural equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers and chainsaws
Apply pesticides and herbicides safely in line with National Proficiency Test Council guidance
Support biodiversity initiatives such as meadow areas, orchards and bulb planting
Ensure health and safety compliance, including PPE use and COSHH regulations
Engage professionally with residents and report hazards, incidents or maintenance issues
What We’re Looking For Previous experience working in grounds maintenance or horticulture
Experience using gardening machinery and mechanical equipment
Ability to identify faults and maintain tools and equipment
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (or willingness to work towards it)
Full UK driving licence desirable
