Finance Manager - Transaction & Accounts Payable

The Finance Manager will ensure the smooth running of day-to-day financial operations across purchase ledger, sales ledger, cash book transactions whilst ensuring that Octavia's bank accounts and balances are within agreed limits. The Finance Supervisor will lead, develop, and motivate a team of finance assistants, and be a figurehead for financial excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Transactions

  • The role manages a team of Finance Assistants and has full responsibility for the Accounts Payable function and will take the lead on the Accounts Payable transformation programme
  • Sets the principles, processes and standards for effective change management within the Accounts Payable function
  • Builds and maintains strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally to support the transformation delivery objectives
  • Works closely with the Project Management Officer, IT and other technical support teams to incorporate the changes to the chart of accounts and new finance system into the Accounts Payable system
  • Manage an efficient and customer-focused transaction service covering the financial operations of the Group, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, credit control, petty cash, credit cards and banking
  • Ensure Octavia's cash position is maximised by operating timely billing and payments, liaising with suppliers, customers and the wider business as necessary
  • Instil a target-driven culture across the transaction team, focusing on output and efficiency alongside compliance and control
  • Manage month end processes across the transaction team and all associated reconciliations
  • Manage workloads, rotations and cross-coverage throughout the transactions team, responding quickly to areas of demand and building a team that is flexible, adaptable and high-performing
  • Build a culture of continual improvement within the transaction team, measuring and monitoring performance and taking responsibility for the overall quality of output of the team
  • Act as a mentor to junior members of the team, and support the wider business in developing financial acumen and a culture of compliance and control
  • Advocate excellence within Finance and across the organisation
  • Work collaboratively with other Finance colleagues to achieve the overall aims of the directorate

Requirements

Experience

  •  Proven experience of running a high-performing transactions team
  • Housing sector experience or a strong ability to adapt to a complex and regulated sector at pace
  • Proven experience of successful performance management, team leadership and coaching/mentoring

Knowledge/ Skills

  • Ability to manage and prioritise own and team workload
  • Ability to work to high levels of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability identify control gaps, and design, implement and evaluate improvements
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to instil a high-performance culture across the team
  • Knowledge of month-end and year-end accounting processes as well as experience of internal and external audit requirements

Qualifications

  •  CCAB Qualified Accountant / Qualified by experience
