Job Overview

Venn Groups Client are seeking a skilled and motivated Radar Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development, modelling, and testing of radar systems with a particular focus on surveillance, tracking.

You will play a key role in developing innovative radar solutions and supporting their deployment across a range of real-world operational scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and evaluate radar system architectures and sub-systems
  • Develop signal processing algorithms for radar detection, tracking, classification, and clutter suppression
  • Model radar performance using tools such as MATLAB, Python, or proprietary simulation environments
  • Collaborate with RF engineers on antenna design and waveform generation
  • Contribute to system integration and field-testing activities, analysing radar returns and system behaviour
  • Conduct RCS modelling, propagation analysis (including multipath and terrain effects), and radar range equation calculations
  • Generate technical documentation including specifications, test plans, and validation reports
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory standards and work within the bounds of UK export control and defence compliance
  • Engage in R&D projects related to EW technologies.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Radar Systems, or related field
  • Solid understanding of radar theory, Doppler processing, bi-static passive radar, FMCW/pulse radar, beamforming, and signal analysis
  • Hands-on experience with radar development tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, CST, HFSS)
  • Experience with RF front-end integration and radar hardware testing
  • Familiarity with SDR platforms (e.g., USRP, BladeRF, LimeSDR) and real-time signal processing frameworks

Desirable (Nice-to-Have) Skills

  • Knowledge of AI/ML techniques applied to radar target recognition
  • Understanding of sensor fusion and multi-static radar techniques
  • Familiarity with export control regulations (e.g., ITAR, UK SPIRE)
  • Practical experience in field trials and radar calibration
  • Awareness of ISO 9001 quality standards or similar frameworks
