We are working with a lovely, welcoming secondary school in Abergavenny who are seeking a compassionate, patient and motivated Secondary Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–16. Many of these students face learning, emotional or behavioural challenges and benefit from additional guidance, encouragement and consistency.

No previous school experience is required — your transferable skills matter.

This role is ideal for individuals from backgrounds such as:

• Graduates in Psychology, Education, Social Sciences or Performing Arts
• Aspiring teachers looking for experience before PGCE or teacher training
• Youth workers, mentors or sports coaches
• Care or support workers
• Anyone with experience supporting children or young people

• Empathy, patience and strong communication skills
• A proactive and positive approach
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A genuine commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and student development

As a Secondary Support Worker, you will:

• Support pupils one-to-one or in small groups
• Help students engage with learning both in and outside the classroom
• Provide guidance, reassurance and encouragement
• Work closely with teachers, SEN and pastoral teams
• Act as a positive and consistent role model
