A reputable and growing construction contractor based in Chorley is seeking an experienced Buyer with a proven track record in procurement within the commercial construction and/or social housing sectors. This is a key role within the commercial team, responsible for strategically sourcing materials and services to support a portfolio of high-profile developments across the North West.

Role Overview
As a Buyer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement process, ensuring value for money, quality, and timely delivery of materials to support project delivery. Working closely with commercial, project, and site teams, you will play a critical role in maintaining an efficient and cost-effective supply chain aligned with operational and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the procurement of construction materials and sub-contract services in line with project specifications and programme timelines

*

Source, negotiate, and manage supplier and subcontractor agreements to ensure commercial advantage and continuity of supply

*

Evaluate supplier performance and implement procurement strategies to drive cost savings and value engineering

*

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, pricing movements, and innovations in materials and construction techniques

*

Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, including quality, sustainability, and health & safety standards

*

Work collaboratively with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and Site Teams to forecast demand and manage procurement schedules

*

Contribute to tendering processes, including pricing support and supplier engagement

Candidate Profile

*

Minimum 3 years' experience in a buying/procurement role within the construction industry (5+ years preferred)

*

Demonstrable experience procuring for commercial or social housing construction projects

*

Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications

*

Comprehensive knowledge of construction materials, supply chain logistics, and procurement systems

*

Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple procurement streams concurrently

*

Proficient in the use of procurement and ERP systems (COINS, Causeway, or similar desirable)

*

Full UK driving licence preferred (occasional site visits may be required)
