Backshift Supervisor | Structural Steel | £47,694 | North East

If you're a shop floor supervisor who knows how to keep a backshift running without constant hand-holding, this is worth two minutes of your time.

A well-established structural steel manufacturer in the North East is looking for an experienced Backshift Supervisor to take ownership of the afternoon and evening shift, keeping production moving, the team focused, and the floor safe. This is a proper supervisory role in a heavy engineering environment, reporting directly to the Works Manager and working alongside other shift supervisors to hit output targets and maintain standards across the operation.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the backshift, coordinating labour, materials, and workflow to keep the shop floor operating efficiently. That means allocating work to your team, monitoring production performance, flagging quality issues or defects early, and making sure health and safety standards are upheld throughout the shift.

You'll also carry out one-to-ones and appraisals, identify training needs within your team, and provide cover where required. It's a hands-on role and you'll be visible on the floor, not behind a desk.

Working Hours

* Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm to 11:00pm

* Friday: 2:30pm to 8:30pm

* 1 in 4 Saturdays: 7:30am to 12:30pm (paid at £28.66ph)

What We're Looking For

* Supervisory or team leader experience in manufacturing or heavy engineering

* Confident managing people on the shop floor, allocating work, addressing performance, and leading by example

* Strong health and safety awareness and practical compliance

* IOSH and First Aid at Work are desirable. If you don't hold them, training will be provided

* £22.93 per hour inclusive of backshift allowance, equating to £47,694 per annum based on 40 hours
