Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Lambeth, London

Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday (08:30am - 4:00pm)

Sugarman Education is recruiting a resilient and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Lambeth that caters to children with behavioural difficulties. This full-time role begins in September 2025 and runs from Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 4:00pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with classroom experience who is passionate about supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs (SEMH). You will work closely with teaching staff to provide a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that encourages positive behaviour and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups as a dedicated Learning Support Assistant.

* Build positive relationships with pupils to promote trust, consistency, and engagement in learning.

* Support with de-escalation strategies and behaviour management plans under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.

* Help students develop social skills and self-regulation strategies.

* Assist in planning and delivering personalised learning activities.

* Encourage academic progress while maintaining clear boundaries and structure throughout the day.

* Play a proactive role in safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.

Requirements:

* Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant in a classroom or youth work setting is essential.

* Strong understanding of or experience with SEMH, ADHD, ODD, or trauma-informed approaches.

* Confident managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.

* Calm, compassionate, and firm - able to maintain authority while showing empathy.

* Must be able to commit to full-time hours, Monday to Friday (08:30-4:00pm).

* An Enhanced DBS is required. If not already on the Update Service, Sugarman Education can support you in obtaining a new DBS check.
