Our client is a well-established construction business based in East London, known for delivering high-quality projects across residential, commercial, and specialist construction sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Role Overview
The Payroll Officer will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process for both PAYE employees and subcontractors. This includes ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of weekly and monthly payrolls, with a strong emphasis on CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) administration. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within the construction industry or managing CIS payroll.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle payroll for PAYE staff and subcontractors.
- Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and on time.
- Administer CIS deductions, verify subcontractors, and maintain compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Handle starter and leaver processes, timesheets, holiday pay, statutory payments, and deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure all documentation is up to date.
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare payroll summaries, statements, and reports for management and accounts teams.
- Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and subcontractors in a professional and timely manner.
- Liaise with HR, finance, site managers, and external bodies where necessary.
- Ensure all payroll activities comply with legislation and company policies.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Payroll Officer, ideally within the construction sector.
- Strong working knowledge of CIS payroll is essential.
- Familiarity with HMRC regulations and payroll legislation.
- Experience with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
- High attention to detail and excellent numerical skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Confidentiality and accuracy when handling sensitive data.
