Senior Protection & Control Engineer - Power Sector Projects (Contract Position)

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Protection & Control Engineer to join our client's UK team, specialising in power transmission and distribution projects. This is a contract role based out of the London office, commencing on 2nd June 2025 and running until 30th May 2026.

In the UK, they have established a strong presence within the Electricity Transmission & Distribution sector, marking a new and successful chapter in their global operations. Their UK branch has recently secured substantial contracts, including a framework agreement with National Grid for substation projects ranging from £5 million to £50 million, as well as a framework with SSEN for projects up to £100 million.

Operating from state-of-the-art offices in central Birmingham and London, the client is rapidly expanding, driven by a dedicated team of industry experts. Their focus on innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence positions them as a key player in the UK's Transmission & Distribution landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

*

Lead technical development of project solutions, particularly in Protection & Control (P&C) engineering, from 11kV to 400kV (with emphasis on 132kV and above).

*

Act as Lead Project Engineer on multi-disciplinary project teams as required.

*

Produce detailed P&C design packages, compliant with client and national standards (ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE).

*

Undertake power system studies (fault level and load flow) to determine protection settings and produce relay protection files.

*

Prepare calculations, technical documentation, and equipment specifications.

*

Execute complex assignments using advanced techniques, fostering process improvements.

*

Support the Substations Section Manager in enhancing P&C engineering capability within the UK business.

*

Mentor and guide junior engineers within the P&C discipline.

*

Lead client meetings and technical discussions related to P&C engineering.

*

Maintain technical compliance with design management standards, processes, and procedures.

*

Drive a 'Safety by Design' approach on all projects, ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.

*

Support project proposal preparation and tender presentations.

*

Assist with policy, process, and procedure development to improve engineering capability.

*

Engage with professional bodies and industry groups to maintain Continued Professional Development (CPD).

*

Actively support marketing and business development by building client relationships.

*

Participate in advancing department tools and workflows to enhance efficiency.

Requirements:

*

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years' experience in electrical engineering (consulting experience preferred).

*

Alternatively, Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 2 years' experience.

*

Demonstrable experience with National Grid procedures (e.g., TP106, TP107, TP131, TP135, TP137, TP141, TP153).

*

Strong knowledge of engineering design management practices and relevant UK legislation for electricity supply and construction.

*

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CAD technology/software for P&C design.

*

Familiarity with BIM principles (PAS 1192 and ISO 16950).

*

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical, innovative solutions.

*

Effective stakeholder management, with the ability to build strong relationships.

*

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

*

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.

*

Proactive attitude towards professional development and industry engagement.
