Traffic Operator – Containers

£32,000 – £35,000 (DOE) | Peterborough (PE2) | 4 on / 4 off | 06:00–18:00

My client is seeking an experienced Traffic Operator to join their busy container operation based in Peterborough. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, supportive team within a fast-paced transport environment, coordinating a wide range of trailer types including containers, fridges, flatbeds and curtainsiders.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Planning daily container movements and other loads.
• Producing accurate load plans and coordinating with dock sailing times.
• Booking containers with shipping lines and maintaining transport documentation.
• Liaising with drivers, warehouse teams and other depots.
• Entering delivery information into internal systems.
• Managing the vehicle booking system (VBS) and helping minimise additional charges.
• Handling customer communication and resolving any issues.
• Supporting colleagues with holiday and sickness cover when needed.
• Contributing to a safe, well-organised working environment.

About the Team & Environment

• On-site role based in PE2.
• Reporting to an experienced Transport Manager with over 10 years in the business.
• Team includes warehouse operatives, operations managers, stock control and a small, close-knit transport office.
• Friendly, approachable, banter-filled environment where everyone supports each other.
• Relaxed approach to breaks – take lunch and downtime when needed.
• Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off, 06:00–18:00.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience within a Transport Office / Traffic Office (container experience required).
• Background in dock operations is beneficial.
• Strong communicator, confident liaising with drivers, customers and internal teams.
• Able to work well under pressure and “think on your feet”.
• Numerate and IT literate (MS Office).
• Flexible, reliable, and team-focused.
• CPC qualification is a bonus but not essential.
