Join our dedicated team as a Waste Collection Operative, where you will play a crucial role in supporting daily household waste collection across the borough. This position is essential in delivering council services and responding effectively to community needs.
Day-to-day of the role: - Carry out waste collection duties in all weather conditions, which involves physically demanding tasks.
- Operate mechanical bin-lifting equipment safely, adhering to strict health and safety procedures.
- Maintain and secure vehicles, machinery, and equipment used during operations.
- Provide courteous and professional service to the public and promptly report any issues to the driver or supervisor.
- Follow instructions from the driver and supervisor, using initiative to maintain high service standards.
- Work according to scheduled routes and adapt positively to changes or new initiatives.
- Promote and practice safe working methods, and support apprentices and trainees when required.
- Comply with all relevant policies including Health & Safety, Customer Care, and Equality & Diversity.
- Perform any other duties as directed by management that are appropriate to the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications: - Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Background in waste management or similar operational roles is advantageous.
- Practical understanding of Health & Safety in daily tasks.
- Desirable qualifications include Manual Handling, Needle Stick Awareness, and IOSH Working Safely.
- Skills in effective communication, problem-solving, and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
- Commitment to safe working practices and a flexible approach to working hours and duties.
