Senior Development Engineer

Our client, a manufacturer of specialist vehicles based in West Sussex, is currently in need of a Senior Development Engineer to join its team on a permanent basis.

Due to recent expansion of the companies testing capabilities within the development department, it is in need of a Senior Development Engineer to take a lead in spearheading project management activities in relation to development and verification.

**What you will be doing**

* Leading vehicle and seat system test and development projects.
* Leading team reviews, updating on progress and defining next steps.
* Supervision/execution of component, seat system, armour & vehicle tests (POC, prototype and sign-off).
* Review of customer and internal requirements.
* Ownership of Design Verification Plans.
* Supporting project, technical, design and test-readiness reviews.
* Managing test resource and technicians.
* Managing test vehicles, assets, equipment and instrumentation.
* Writing test plans, procedures and timing plans.
* Sourcing of appropriate test rigs, test equipment and parts.
* Liaising and engaging with other departments, customers and external test facilities.
* Instrumentation and data acquisition of vehicles, seats and components.
* Processing of test data, writing of test reports and presentation of results to project teams.
* Investigation and reporting of failed/fatigued components.
* Reviewing reports and sign-off documentation.
* Supporting Principal Engineer and conducting Principal Engineer duties during their absence.


* Degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering related subject, or relevant experience.
* Minimum 5 years testing/development experience in an automotive or defence environment.
* Experience of leading a validation project or running testing trials.
* Experience of working with UK test facilities, laboratories and proving grounds.
* Interpreting test standards, customer requirements and internal requirements.
* Knowledge of automotive systems (knowledge of defence, blast and ballistic standards preferable but not essential).
* Writing test plans, test procedures and test reports.
* Familiarity with rig testing (rig design and build experience desirable).
* Instrumentation, data logging and interpreting/processing data.
* Driving test vehicles to test standards/cycles on track and off-road.
* Interrogating vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
* Proof of Concept / mule build planning and execution.
* Use of DFMEA and DVP.
* Understanding of environmental and mechanical/structural test inputs.
* Issue analysis (failure mode, root cause analysis).
* Resolution of timing, budget and system design/performance target conflicts.
* Hands-on technical experience highly desirable (automotive electrical systems, automotive mechanical, component dis-assembly, rig building, welding).
* Eligible for UK Security Clearance to minimum SC ('Secret') level.
* Willing to travel in UK and internationally as required.
