Our goal is to solve a messy problem elegantly and cost effectively.  Our job is to collect, match, categorize, and analyze data on 20+ million products from the websites of all the largest retailers and marketplaces in the world.  We help our customers be more competitive and make more money by discovering interesting patterns in this data they can use to their advantage.

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager / Technical Team Lead to build an internal tools platform for our online product line.  We have an ambitious vision to enable the next level of growth of our SaaS platform and are looking for a key leader to help drive that transformation. In this role you will lead a delivery team of three focused on making our internal business operations and customer service teams more efficient and more effective. You will lead the effort to develop an internal applications portal that will be leveraged in the future by other lines of business, develop new applications needed by our internal teams, and integrate existing tools into the portal. We are looking for someone who loves working in a product-driven environment, creating elegant solutions to complex business problems, and driving engineering excellence.

What You Will Do:

  • Empower your team - you partner with product to provide your team the strategic context necessary for them to figure out the best solutions to our customers' problems
  • Collaborate and align - you are a great partner not just to the product team, but also to your peers leading other teams within engineering
  • Communicate clearly - you ensure everyone from the executive team to the individual developers understands what needs to be done, what is being done, and when it will be done
  • Bring new ideas to the table - you are a strategic contributor to our business

Must-Haves:

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 2 years as a team lead
  • BS in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Strong understanding of product-driven engineering and empowered delivery teams
  • Strong coding background in multiple languages
  • Expertise in designing, building and scaling back-end distributed systems (microservices)
  • Expertise in designing and building web applications using modern web frameworks
  • Proficiency with architecting and delivering a large scale distributed or SaaS software platform
  • Solid understanding of AWS, Linux and infrastructure concepts
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker and containerization
  • Ability to coach the team on good agile delivery practices
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, make pragmatic decisions, and adapt to changing business needs
  • Track record of lifting and challenging teammates to higher levels of achievement
  • Prior experience hiring and recruiting high quality engineers

Bonus Points:

  • Expertise in Domain Driven Design
  • Experience working with front end component frameworks or low-code solutions
  • Working knowledge of event sourcing or time series databases
  • Ecommerce or online retail vertical knowledge

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Directly managing 2-3 individual contributors
  • Hiring top-quality engineers onto the team
  • Mentoring and growing team members into more senior roles
  • Setting goals, gathering feedback, and delivering performance reviews as part of Wiser's career management process

Travel: You will be expected to travel as needed. If not based in one of our US offices, you will be expected to visit each at least once per year (Boston once per quarter) once the pandemic is over.
