We're looking for an experienced and passionate Education Capital and Place Planning Officer to play a key role in ensuring every child has access to quality education in a space that's safe, sustainable, and fit for purpose.

About the Role

As the Education Capital and Place Planning Officer, you'll lead vital work that ensures we meet our statutory duty to provide sufficient and sustainable school places for children and young people aged 0-25. You'll support the full lifecycle of school place planning-from identifying future demand and managing capital projects, to collaborating on academy conversions and decarbonising the school estate.

You'll also take the lead on capital project delivery-ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

What You'll Be Doing

Planning and reviewing current and future demand for school places across the county

Supporting the commissioning and development of new education provision

Leading capital projects from inception to completion, managing consultants, contractors, and stakeholders

Playing a key role in school estate improvements, particularly around sustainability and decarbonisation

Ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and leading on communications and consultations

Supporting maintained schools through the transition to academy status

Maximising developer contributions through S106 agreements and supporting strategic growth

Who We're Looking For

We're after a dynamic and collaborative professional with a background in project management, education planning, and capital delivery. You'll need to be a confident communicator, comfortable navigating complex issues and balancing the needs of diverse stakeholders.

You'll bring:

Experience managing large-scale capital or infrastructure projects

Strong knowledge of education provision and statutory planning frameworks

Confidence in leading consultations and engaging the public

A proactive and solution-focused mindset

Passion for improving outcomes for children and young people
