Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our team. The role involves working within an ISO 9001 environment and taking responsibility for all aspects of design for manufacture across a range of mechanical products.

Design Engineer Main Responsibilities

• Work in compliance with ISO 9001 standards on all product design, project work, and order processing.
• Use 3D CAD systems (NX, Inventor, and AutoCAD) to produce accurate and detailed designs, ensuring maximum efficiency.
• Apply design for manufacture and assembly principles to develop 3D part models, assemblies, and 2D drawings in line with current standards.
• Perform calculations relating to product performance and safety, including FEA and FMEA analysis.
• Manage projects covering new product development, modifications to existing designs, and bespoke one-off assignments. This includes preparing assemblies for quotations, investigating design improvements, and rationalising components.
• Employ VAVE techniques to deliver cost-effective, innovative design solutions.
• Prepare detailed material specifications, manuals, and technical reports/documentation as required.
• Create and maintain BOMs.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen events.
• Build effective working relationships with colleagues, supporting both individual and organisational objectives.
• Proactively develop knowledge and skills to address any identified gaps.
• Promote company values including respect, professionalism, fairness, integrity, accountability, and inclusivity.
• Comply with organisational policies, procedures, and quality protocols.
• Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager, which may include hands-on work in the test facility or visiting suppliers and customers both in the UK and overseas.

Design Engineer Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design within a 3D CAD environment.
• Experience with FEA software is desirable.
• Previous engineering experience involving rotating machinery is an advantage.
• Ability to work flexibly to meet deadlines and achieve targets.
• A motivated, collaborative team player with a positive outlook.

Design Engineer Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum qualification: Higher National Certificate/Diploma with relevant industry experience.
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration desirable but not essential.
• Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD package is essential.
