My client specialises in the manufacture of control panels and substations, as well as providing testing, commissioning, maintenance, installation, and emergency response services for power systems.Their capabilities include primary and secondary injection testing, AC dielectric testing, transformer installation, cable terminations, fault investigation, and a wide range of HV system services.

Your Role

To carry out installation, commissioning, modification, and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment at customer sites across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

You will supervise and/or perform the following tasks at UK locations on switchgear, transformers, and related systems from 33kV to 400kV:

Installation & Commissioning

*

Off-loading and installation of new panels, switchgear, and transformers

*

Commissioning of high-voltage electrical equipment

*

Wiring modifications and retrofit upgrades

*

Mechanical and electrical function testing on 33-400kV switchboards

Maintenance & Testing

*

Planned maintenance: visual to intrusive inspections

*

Partial discharge testing, thermal imaging, and oil sampling

*

Primary and secondary injection testing (CT/VT)

*

Systems testing and fault diagnosis

*

Experience with IEC 61850, G99, differential and distance protection schemes

Customer & Business Support

*

Promote company services and identify new business opportunities

*

Participate in the 24/7 On-Call rota providing emergency support

Important Performance Criteria

*

Submit site reports and test results within 2 working days of job completion

*

Complete weekly timesheets and expense claims

*

Submit weekly Health & Safety documentation (when in supervisory role)

*

Complete method statements and risk assessments within agreed deadlines

*

Deliver installations and maintenance tasks within agreed project timescales

About You - Skills & Experience

*

Proven experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of HV switchgear and associated plant

*

Ability to work independently or as part of a team across UK

*

Customer-focused with a strong service mindset

*

Willingness to work at nuclear, military, offshore, and other specialised locations

*

Full UK driving licence

*

Strong understanding of electrical safety and risks associated with live HV networks

*

Academic qualification (Degree/HNC) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

Technical Competencies

*

Strong experience in High Voltage testing (33kV-400kV)

*

CT magnetisation curve testing & CT primary injection

*

Relay secondary injection (electromechanical and solid-state devices)

*

VT primary injection

*

Control circuit wiring testing, modification, and troubleshooting
