The Role - Machine Shop Manager

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Machine Shop Manager to lead a team of 16 skilled machinists. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical expertise and strong team management capabilities.

Your team will include specialists in CNC machining, wire/spark erosion, vertical boring, fitting, and assembly. The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining performance, workflow, quality, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the machine shop
Provide hands-on technical support where required
Manage and mentor a multi-skilled team across machining and assembly disciplines
Schedule and prioritise work to meet production targets
Liaise with Engineering and Procurement on material requirements and subcontracting
Ensure machine maintenance, tooling, and spares are organised and up to date
Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, KPIs)
Promote and uphold high standards in safety, quality, and process complianceThe Ideal Candidate

Strong background in machining and CAM programming
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings
Experience using ERP systems
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Highly organised and process-oriented
Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement
Previous experience managing a fast-paced machine shop environment
