Network Engineer (Vmware) (Palo Alto Networks)
The work involves building an appliance for advanced network security and network management of SCADA and ICS systems. The appliance makes use of several leading third party components, including a Palo Alto Networks NGFW and VMware based virtual networking, as well as in-house developed components running on embedded Linux. The Network & Network Security Engineer will architect and configure the existing components, and provide subject matter expertise for engineers developing the in-house components.
Key technical proficiencies are:
1. Network security devices, such as the Palo Alto Networks NGFW
2. Virtual networking, such as VMware ESXi and vSwitch
3. Network routing and switching, including L3, L2, VLANs, and security features
4. Familiarity with SCADA & ICS protocols (such as Modbus and PROFINET)
5. Linux management, including Linux networking
Note: The above lists the components we are using. However, a talented engineer with expertise in a different product with the same role (e.g. Xen as opposed to VMware, or Cisco as opposed to Palo Alto) is perfectly acceptable.
This role does not involve administering an existing network. Rather, it involves building a next generation appliance to be deployed in the field. This engineer will architect and configure these components as they are incorporated into the appliance, and provide expertise and guidance on the development of our custom, in-house components. This role involves exploration, experimentation, and a fair amount of R&D.
This role does not require software development beyond standard scripting.
