We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant Year 1 team at a primary school in Accrington. This role combines classroom support in Year 1 with a focus on phonics teaching and SEN support across Key Stage 1. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping young learners develop foundational skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide general support to the Year 1 teacher in delivering daily educational activities.
  • Lead small groups in phonics sessions, employing engaging methods to enhance reading and writing skills.
  • Offer tailored support to SEN students within KS1, adapting techniques to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly classroom environment.
  • Monitor and support the progress of all students, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with other teaching staff to plan and coordinate lessons and activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Manage classroom resources and setup for activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a teaching assistant role, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of phonics and experience delivering phonics programs.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with SEN students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and patient approach to student development.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as NVQ Level 2/3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent, are preferred.
