Solicitor - Military Department

We are seeking Solicitors (0-3 years PQE) to join our client's40 Military Department, focusing on military deafness and non-freezing cold injuries. This role is crucial in providing specialist legal advice to service men and women who have claims against the Ministry of Defence for failure to protect from illness or avoidable injury.

Day-to-Day of the Role

  • Take initial enquiries from clients and draft witness evidence.
  • Manage a high volume of document disclosure.
  • Update clients on their claim progress.
  • Handle telephone enquiries from clients.
  • Assist in instructing counsel and preparing court documents.
  • Prepare detailed schedules of loss.
  • Assess complex medical conditions and consider medical issues/reports.
  • Review reports from acoustic engineering experts and environmental, occupational health, and military training experts relevant to cold exposure.
  • Review and advise on offers in respect of breach of duty and quantum.
  • Proactively manage your own caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with the supervision of the Paralegal team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to the claimant litigation process is essential.
  • Experience of independently managing a caseload.
  • Previous experience dealing with noise-induced hearing loss claims is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent client care skills.
