SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary SEMH School, Bournemouth

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing, community-focused primary school in Bournemouth that supports children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. By providing a calm, structured and learning-focused environment, the school enables pupils to flourish, build confidence and achieve accelerated progress across all areas of their development.
The staff work closely together to ensure every child receives the consistency, care and encouragement they need to thrive.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work primarily in a class of up to 8 pupils, supporting the teacher with learning, emotional regulation and positive behaviour for learning. You will help maintain a purposeful classroom environment, build trusting relationships with pupils, and contribute to a team that values collaboration, reflection and shared success. Your role will be central to helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

- Pay: £14.96 per hour
- Hours: Monday-Tuesday: 08:30am - 16:05pm / Wednesday-Friday: 08:30am - 15:15pm
Experience, Training and Qualifications
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation and behaviour support
- GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
- Confident following learning plans and supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
- High levels of professionalism, empathy and emotional intelligence
- Ability to remain calm, consistent and resilient in challenging situations
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality and data protection principles
