We are recruiting for a key position within the Technical Team on behalf of a leading client in the food manufacturing industry. About the role:
Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, the Assistant Technical Manager will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing site standards. You will deputise for the Technical Manager, ensuring that all aspects of food safety, quality, and compliance are met - particularly in line with BRC standards and major retailer requirements.

This role is highly systems-focused, responsible for ensuring the QMS (Quality Management System) is robust, compliant, and continually updated. You will work closely with internal teams, lead supplier approval, and act as the primary point of contact for customer liaison, fostering excellent relationships across the board.

Key Responsibilities:
-Oversee all site food safety and hygiene standards
-Ensure the QMS is maintained and fully compliant with BRC standards
-Liaise directly with customers, building strong, professional relationships
-Manage and maintain supplier approval processes
-Be heavily involved in all external audits, including BRC and major retailers
-Maintain a state of audit readiness at all times
-Lead the internal audit schedule and corrective action process
-Support and deputise for the Technical Manager
-Lead and develop a small team, driving a culture of food safety and continuous improvement

Requirements:
-Proven experience in a similar technical or QA leadership role within the food manufacturing industry
-Strong working knowledge of BRC, HACCP, and food safety culture
-Experience working directly with UK retailers and understanding their compliance requirements
-A meticulous eye for detail and a proactive approach to maintaining and improving standards
-Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functionally and externally
-Demonstrable experience in team leadership and development

Salary - £40,000 - £50,000
