We are working in partnership with a leading engineering manufacturer in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Buyer on a contract basis through to the end of September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of high-integrity, safety-critical programmes within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

The Role

As Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting engineering and production teams by ensuring the timely procurement of materials, components, and services. Operating within a complex supply chain, you will help drive cost, quality, and delivery performance while maintaining compliance with defence and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities as a Buyer:

Manage end-to-end procurement of components, materials, and services
Raise and manage purchase orders in line with MRP/ERP demand signals
Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery to production and project schedules
Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Programme teams to support delivery
Source new suppliers and support supplier selection and onboarding
Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to achieve best value
Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues proactively
Ensure compliance with internal processes and defence procurement standards
Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiativesKey Requirements as a Buyer:

Proven experience as a Buyer within engineering, manufacturing, or defence environments
Strong understanding of technical procurement (e.g. machined parts, electronics, assemblies)
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, IFS or similar)
Strong stakeholder engagement skills across engineering and operations teams
Experience in expediting and managing suppliers in a project-based environment
Good commercial awareness and negotiation skillsDesirable

Experience within defence, aerospace, or other regulated industries
Knowledge of export controls / compliance (e.g. ITAR, EAR)Why Apply?
