Drive the decarbonisation agenda at the forefront of the built environment, shaping low‑carbon strategies for some of the UK's most high-profile projects. This is a key opportunity to lead on Whole Life Carbon analysis and embed robust sustainability outcomes for clients who are serious about net zero.

About the Role:

As Principal Sustainability Consultant, you will lead Whole Life Carbon assessments across complex building and infrastructure projects, using One Click LCA to drive evidence-based design decisions. You will act as a trusted technical authority, guiding clients and internal teams on carbon reduction strategies and integrating sustainability into project delivery. Your work will directly influence design, procurement, and policy recommendations to help meet ambitious net-zero and ESG targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Whole Life Carbon (WLC) assessments for major projects, from early-stage feasibility through detailed design and delivery.
Develop and optimise project-specific carbon reduction strategies, advising on materials, construction methods, and design options.
Use One Click LCA to model, analyse, and report embodied and operational carbon, ensuring data quality and consistency.
Present clear, insightful WLC findings and recommendations to clients, design teams, and senior stakeholders.
Oversee and review the work of junior and mid-level consultants, providing technical direction and quality assurance.
Contribute to internal methodologies, tools, and best practice guidance for WLC and LCA services.
Support business development through input into bids, proposals, and thought leadership on carbon and sustainability.
Key Requirements:

Extensive experience delivering Whole Life Carbon assessments on building and/or infrastructure projects.
Advanced user of One Click LCA, including model setup, data input, scenario analysis, and reporting.
Strong understanding of UK and European carbon standards, frameworks, and guidance (e.g. RICS, LETI, UKGBC, EN standards).
Proven track record of advising design teams and clients on carbon reduction strategies and low‑carbon design.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, with strong organisation and prioritisation skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical analysis into clear, actionable advice for non‑specialists.
Experience mentoring or leading technical team members within a consultancy environment.
Desirable Skills:

Experience with wider sustainability services (e.g. circular economy, materials passports, ESG reporting, climate resilience).
Familiarity with other LCA or building performance tools and platforms.
Experience contributing to or developing internal carbon tools, databases, or benchmarks.
Involvement in industry working groups, publications, or guidance related to Whole Life Carbon.
Qualifications:

Degree in a relevant discipline such as Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Building Services, Architecture, or related field.
Postgraduate qualification in sustainability, low-carbon design, or environmental management is preferred.
Professional membership or working towards membership of a relevant body (e.g. IEMA, CIBSE, ICE, RICS, or similar).
Evidence of ongoing CPD in Whole Life Carbon, LCA, or net-zero carbon methodologies.
If you are ready to lead on Whole Life Carbon for high-impact projects and shape best practice in a growing team, we would like to hear from you
