We’re expanding our team due to a growing number of learners with increasing social, emotional, and mental health needs. As a result, we’re looking for a dedicated Safeguarding Officer to provide proactive, front-line safeguarding and welfare support across our Study Programme sites.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the right experience, values, and practical safeguarding background — formal qualifications are welcomed but not essential.

About the Learners

You’ll be supporting a diverse cohort of 16–18 year olds and adult learners (19+), many of whom present with:

  • High levels of vulnerability
  • Mental health needs
  • SEND requirements
  • Drug/alcohol misuse concerns
  • Self-harm or risk indicators

Study Programme groups typically include 12–14 learners per class with a Tutor and LSA, totalling around 90 learners onsite (not always attending at the same time). Some 1:1 work will also be part of the role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding and welfare concerns.
  • Manage low and medium-risk safeguarding cases, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead with complex or high-risk concerns where required.
  • Complete welfare checks, monitoring actions and maintaining the safety and wellbeing of learners.
  • Keep clear, accurate, confidential safeguarding records in line with policy and legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with Tutors, LSAs, Managers, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Deliver safeguarding briefings or awareness sessions to staff and learners.
Experience & Skills We’re Looking For

We’re seeking the right person, with strong experience rather than specific qualifications. Ideal backgrounds include:

  • Education
  • Youth support
  • Family outreach
  • Local authority roles
  • General intervention or pastoral support

You should also have:

  • Experience working with vulnerable young people or young adults.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding, KCSIE, Prevent Duty, and safer working practices.
  • The ability to assess risk and respond appropriately to disclosures.
  • Strong communication and rapport-building skills, especially with learners who have barriers or complex needs.
  • Confidence in decision-making and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Safeguarding CPD, DSL training, or willingness to complete safeguarding/apprenticeship training.

Why Work With Reed?

  • Exclusive access to roles across leading FE colleges and training providers
  • 1–2–1 support from a Specialist SEN Consultant (including CV help & interview prep!)
  • Health Cash Plan & REED Discount Club
  • Statutory Sick Pay, Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Pay
  • Access to REED Learning & Development programmes
  • Eye test and spectacle vouchers
