Due to continued success and growth, JEM Property Services Group Ltd are looking to recruit an experienced and committed Domestic Gas Engineer to join our team in Portsmouth.

As part of this varied role, you will receive a generous package that varies depending on experience, including health insurance on completion of a qualifying period.

About the Role

For this Maintenance Operative role, we're looking for a team player who can also work independently, has a flexible approach and a can-do attitude to get the job done. You must be able to work to high standards (both in work delivered and customer/client relations). Experience in reactive/responsive maintenance experience is preferable.

Availability Information

This Maintenance Operative role involves working weekends on a rotation. Overtime is available.

Responsibilities and Duties

Daily duties would include but are not limited to the following:

Joining our team as a Domestic Gas Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Attending boiler breakdowns
  • Conducting repairs to heating systems
  • Boiler and heating system servicing
  • Un vented cylinder repairs, installs and servicing.
  • Fixing general plumbing leaks and replacing of parts.
  • Conducting landlord LGSR inspections.
  • Boiler installs.
  • General maintenance repairs, responding to emergency and planned call-outs
  • Liaising with the scheduling team and Operations Manager
  • Plumbing – Fault-finding and repairs on plumbing – toilets, taps, sinks, leaks, blockages and escape of water, including making safe and repairing
  • Carpentry - Repairing doors and door furniture, including panic bars, handles, locks, and door closers

We provide you with the tools you need to get the job done, including a company van, fuel card, uniform, and phone.

Qualifications and Skills

Could this be the ideal role for me?

Candidates must hold current domestic gas accreditations and qualifications, plumbing qualifications and an un-vented certificate. In addition to these qualifications, you will also have the following skills and experience: 

  • Experience in diagnosing boiler faults over a wide range of makes and servicing.
  • LPG certificate would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Boiler install experience an advantage.
  • Be able to fit WCs, Basins, Taps, Showers, and baths of all types
  • Ability to work as part of a team and un-supervised
  • Be of smart appearance with good written skills
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Clean driving license
  • Be able to pass a DRB vetting check
  • Ideally, the successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in multiple disciplines, including plumbing, carpentry, tiling, painting, patch plastering, decorating, and general maintenance repairs, as the work is quite varied.
  •  Must have a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Hold formal trade qualifications.
  • Able to pass or hold a current DBS security check.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Excellent communication skills and report writing skills - working from a PDA is required.
