About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Draughtsman with SolidWorks experience to join clients structural metalwork team. The successful candidate will produce high‑quality technical drawings and 3D models for a wide range of fabricated steel and metalwork structures, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Produce 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks for metalwork fabrication, structural assemblies, and installation layouts.
Create detailed GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings, including weld symbols, part numbers, and BOMs.
Interpret and develop designs from engineer sketches, architectural plans, and site measurements.
Work closely with the fabrication team to ensure drawings are practical, manufacturable, and cost‑effective.
Revise and update drawings based on engineer feedback or site changes.
Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, building regulations, and internal quality procedures.
Support the design team with problem‑solving and technical input during projects.
Maintain organised drawing files and revision control.

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience as a Draughtsman in the structural or architectural metalwork industry (e.g., staircases, balustrades, platforms, mezzanines, handrails, structural steel).
Proficient in SolidWorks (Sheet Metal module experience is a strong advantage).
Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, folding, welding, and assembly.
Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
Good knowledge of steel grades, tolerances, and standard fabrication practices.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Knowledge of industry standards such as BS EN 1090 (preferred but not essential).
Ability to work independently and manage multiple drawings/projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, or related field (preferred).
SolidWorks certification (CSWA/CSWP) is an advantage.
Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
