Independent Chemical Corporation, listed as one of the Top 100 Chemical Distributors in North America, is looking to expand its Sales Team due to growth. This position is NOT about selling cosmetics or personal care products to end users. Instead, you will be selling the raw materials and ingredients that go into those products for manufacturers in the Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry throughout the New York tri-state region (North NJ, NY metropolitan area, and CT), New England (MA, ME, VT, and NH), plus eastern Canada

 

The position is based 75% out of your home office and requires daily local travel 2-3 weeks per month for customer visits and relationship-building. The remaining 25% of your time will be spent at our Paterson, NJ facility for contacting customers, for training, for meetings to discuss sales plans, progress, and strategies, and where you will be submitting weekly activity reports, which will highlight sales success, accounts, and efforts in progress towards sales. You will call on some current accounts but be paid primarily for generating new business. You will be charged with finding new accounts, determining products to offer and price, developing new product offerings to meet customers’ needs, and managing the pricing and relationship while our office handles the logistics. Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and communicates sales plan
  • Presents and sells company products and services to new and existing customers
  • Negotiates price with customers to reach a win-win sale
  • Prospects and contacts potential customers
  • Attends trade shows to promote products and interact with potential customers
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with clients
  • Reaches agreed upon sales targets by the deadline
  • Demonstrates goal-oriented business-to-business sales performance and success
  • Learns new and varied chemical product lines and their applications in the Cosmetics & Personal Care industries
  • Resolves customer inquiries and complaints
  • Sets follow-up appointments to keep customers aware of latest developments
  • Creates sales material to present to customers
  • Submits weekly activity reports, travel expenses, etc. on time

 

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years required in outside business-to-business sales of chemicals, ingredients, additives or other raw materials preferably within the Cosmetics & Personal Care industries
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, cosmetics science, engineering or similar technical background
  • Demonstrates goal-oriented business-to-business sales performance and success
  • Shows strong grasp of chemistry, especially how Cosmetics and Personal Care customers use chemicals, ingredients, and additives, and how our products can offset competitive products
  • Exhibits superior sales negotiation skills and high EQ
  • Possesses effective communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and management
  • Highly organized self-starter and detail-oriented problem-solver
  • Punctual, responsible, professional, personable, and dedicated
