Job Description:

Join a dedicated team at a independent school, a specialist environment committed to the education and welfare of children with special needs. We are seeking a Primary Class Teacher who is passionate about providing outstanding teaching and learning, and who thrives in a collaborative educational setting. This is a full-time, on-site role as a Primary Class Teacher. You will be responsible for lesson planning, delivering high-quality education, effectively communicating with students and colleagues, and promoting a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, nurturing classroom environment.
  • Plan and deliver stimulating lessons for ages 7-11.
  • Supervise teaching assistants.
  • Provide quality feedback to ensure student progress.
  • Develop literacy skills and maintain high behaviour standards.
  • Plan lessons with the Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning.
  • Use assessments to monitor progress and set targets.
  • Communicate regularly with parents.
  • Maintain accurate student data.
  • Identify and implement intervention strategies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Promote high achievement and positive culture.
  • Support management in implementing changes.
  • Foster excellent behaviour and respectful relationships.
  • Undertake professional development and appraisal.
  • Enforce classroom expectations and school policies.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Qualified teaching status.
  • Experience in teaching young people aged between 7 - 11.
  • Working with children with special educational needs.
  • Experience of organising and running extra-curricular activities (preferred).
  • A knowledge and understanding of Steiner Waldorf curriculum and ethos (preferred).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Awareness of NC requirements of Key Stages 1 and 2.
  • Highly skilled classroom practitioner, able to deliver a variety of teaching strategies.
  • A strong enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
  • The ability to support pupils with SEN.
  • Excellent lesson planning.
  • Effective behaviour management and motivation.
  • The ability to work easily with colleagues and to function as part of a team.
  • ICT competent.

Personal competencies and qualities:

  • Well organised and willingness to organise extra-curricular activities both in and outside of the departments.
  • Good interpersonal skills when dealing with pupils, parents, staff, and the wider community.
  • An ability to combine rigour and high expectations with personal tact and discretion.
  • Understand and respect the importance of diverse cultures and faiths within the school, with a commitment to equal opportunities.
  • The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries with young people.
  • Eagerness to try out new ideas and initiatives, both within and beyond the curriculum.
