Do you hold an Enhanced DBS On the update service?REED Further Education are seeking a dedicated Student Liaison Officer (SLO) to join our Student Services team. This role is crucial for improving attendance and supporting behaviour management and pastoral support among students aged 16-18. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Director of Student Services and Safeguarding to implement effective strategies and plans to enhance student retention, achievement, and progression.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Monitor and address learner attendance and punctuality, identifying patterns of low or non-attendance and implementing support interventions.
  • Maintain a visible presence across the College to monitor student attendance in lessons and around the building.
  • Engage, motivate, and mentor learners to improve their attendance, behaviour, and engagement with studies.
  • Track attendance and behaviour, supporting the disciplinary process and liaising with curriculum staff, support services, and parents/carers.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote student wellbeing and provide targeted support to learners at risk of failure.
  • Plan and deliver pastoral tutorial sessions and support the induction and assessment of learners.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with College systems and procedures, updating individual support plans for learners as needed.
  • Support College events such as parents’ evenings, open days, and other activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with learners, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • Level 3 qualification (e.g., A levels or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience working with the 16-19 age group in youth work, careers, teaching, or learner pastoral support.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in IT to support delivery and maintain learner records.
  • Knowledge of post-16 education and the development of personal, social, and employability skills.
  • Ability to take a coaching or mentoring approach to support learners.
  • First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
