About the Role: South Tyneside Council is seeking a child-focused, skilled, and enthusiastic Social Worker to join our innovative Kinship Care Team.
This role is central to our commitment to supporting children and young people through strong, stable kinship arrangements. You will undertake high-quality assessments at various stages of planning for children, with your work often forming part of formal proceedings, including court presentations.
As a Social Worker in this team, you will help build a service that truly meets the needs of kinship families—learning, adapting, and shaping our practice as we grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake evidence-based, analytical assessments related to kinship care planning.
Present assessments in various forums, including court within legal proceedings.
Work directly with children, families, and partner agencies, building strong and trusting relationships.
Adjust your approach based on ongoing service learning and feedback from families.
Contribute to the development of the Kinship Care Service, alongside key stakeholders and partners.About You: To succeed in this role, you will need:

A Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW, or equivalent)
Social Work England registration
Proven experience delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessments
Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently
A collaborative and adaptive mindset—ready to contribute to an evolving and reflective team
