Financial Controller - 6 months, potential for extension - North Oxfordshire CIRCA £70 - £80K

Overview

We are seeking a proactive, "go-getter" Financial Controller to join a rapidly developing division of an established business.

This role will lead the finance function, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, improvinacg processes, and driving performance insight across the business. You will manage a team and work closely with operational and senior stakeholders to support decision-making and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Own and deliver the month-end close (opening to closing balance) in line with strict deadlines (target: Day 3)
  • Ensure accurate balance sheet, P&L, prepayments, and accruals
  • Track performance against budget, forecast, and long-term plans
  • Provide clear variance analysis and insight
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and group policies(including IFRS 16 - essential experience to this , capitalisation, provisions)

Business Partnering & Analysis

  • Provide financial insight and decision support to improve business performance
  • Present results and commentary to regional and senior stakeholders
  • Work closely with FP&A to deliver effective management information
  • Support and challenge business cases and investment decisions

Project Accounting

  • Oversee accounting for project spend and capitalisation
  • Experience in:
    • Capitalising vs expensing
    • Managing project costs
    • Reviewing significant business cases

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team across:
    • Accounts Payable
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Management Accounting
  • Ensure:
    • Timely payments and debt collection
    • Strong cash flow management
  • Provide coaching and improve team capability and output

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Improve speed and accuracy of reporting (currently slow and inconsistent)
  • Shift focus from data processing to insight generation

Cash Flow & Controls

  • Oversee cash flow, treasury interaction, and intercompany transactions
  • Ensure strong financial controls and financial resilience metrics
  • Lead year-end audit and manage external auditors

Stakeholder Management

  • Work with:
    • Site managers
    • Operational teams
    • Senior leadership and central finance
  • Act as a key link between finance and the wider business

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience running a full finance function
  • Strong understanding of AR, AP, Management Accounts, Treasury
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders in large organisations
