A warm, inclusive specialist school is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). You’ll play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, develop communication skills, and engage positively in learning through personalised support.
About the RoleYou will work as part of a skilled and supportive team to:
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and independence
- Support pupils with autism using structured routines, visual supports, sensory strategies and clear communication
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support throughout the day
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, social communication and transitions
- Help create a calm, predictable, and nurturing learning environment
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff to ensure consistent support
- Encourage pupils to access learning at their own pace and celebrate their progress
About YouYou would be a great fit if you:
- Have experience supporting children with autism or other SEN (desirable but not essential)
- Are patient, nurturing and calm in your approach
- Can work confidently with pupils who may have sensory needs, communication differences, or behaviours associated with autism
- Are able to follow structured routines and implement visual/communication supports
- Can work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
- Have a genuine passion for helping pupils feel understood, supported and successful
