Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing
Start Date: September 2025

Be the difference that changes a young person's path.

Some young people face challenges that go far beyond the classroom. This is your chance to help them navigate those challenges and discover their potential.

We're working with a forward-thinking Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Birmingham that supports around 440 learners referred by the Local Authority. Each student comes with their own story - some have been permanently excluded, others are in care, many are living with the effects of trauma, anxiety, or significant social and emotional needs.

About the Learners:
You could be working with students who:

Have an EHCP for social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) needs

Are at risk of exclusion or already permanently excluded from mainstream school

Are looked after children without a current school placement

Are involved with the justice system

Face barriers to learning linked to anxiety, difficult life experiences, or complex home situations

The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant in this PRU, your role is all about connection, encouragement, and consistency. You'll provide 1:1 and small group support, helping learners engage with education while also developing social skills, emotional resilience, and trust in themselves and others.

Day-to-Day You Will:

Support students in lessons and during unstructured times to create a safe, positive environment

Help deliver learning activities tailored to individual needs and abilities

Promote positive behaviour through patience, clear expectations, and encouragement

Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide holistic support

Encourage independence, life skills, and self-confidence in every learner you work with

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Has experience in PRUs, alternative provision, or SEMH-focused roles (ideal but not essential)

Can remain calm and consistent under pressure, using empathy to manage challenging behaviour

Builds trust quickly and genuinely with young people

Is adaptable, resilient, and committed to teamwork

May hold a Teaching Assistant qualification - though your mindset and approach matter more than certificates

Why Join Long Term Futures?

Exclusive access to PRU and alternative provision roles in Birmingham

Support from a team experienced in specialist and SEN education

Free CPD and training to help you grow in your role

Competitive daily pay via PAYE - no umbrella deductions

The chance to make a genuine, long-term difference in young people's lives

If you're ready to inspire, guide, and support some of Birmingham's most determined and resilient students, we'd love to hear from you.
