Our client is a family-owned logistics company with a long history. They are currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant / Financial Controller to join their team and take ownership of the finance function. This role will play a crucial part in driving financial performance, ensuring compliance, and providing commercial insight to support business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts, providing analysis and commentary to senior management.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial performance against targets.
• Lead the preparation of statutory accounts, liaising with auditors and external stakeholders.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and credit control functions.
• Implement and maintain robust financial controls and processes.
• Provide financial modelling and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Manage and mentor finance team members.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, VAT returns, and other statutory requirements.
• Partner with operational teams to understand business drivers and provide financial insight.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Ideally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
• Proven experience in a Management Accountant or Financial Controller role, ideally within logistics, transport, or a similar fast-paced sector.
• Strong knowledge of management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Xero, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a small finance team.
• Commercially astute with the ability to influence stakeholders across the business.
