A welcoming and dedicated SEN school in Southampton is looking for a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a long-term opportunity to work in a supportive, specialist setting with small class sizes of around 5-7 students, providing the extra attention and guidance they need to thrive.

This school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering a structured and nurturing environment to help them access education in a way that suits their individual needs. As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping students build confidence, self-regulation skills, and a more positive approach to learning.

Your Role Will Include:

Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs

Assisting the class teacher in delivering a differentiated curriculum

Supporting students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement

Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff

Encouraging independence and supporting personal development

Maintaining a calm and consistent presence throughout the day

What We're Looking For:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is highly desirable

A calm, empathetic and patient approach

Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a close-knit team

A commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning

Reliability, consistency and a proactive attitude

About the School:
This is a well-regarded specialist provision with a strong ethos of care, respect and personalised learning. Staff are passionate about improving outcomes for every child, and the school offers a collaborative and encouraging environment for both students and staff. Training and professional development are actively supported.

Requirements:

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

A DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one

Relevant qualifications or training in education, SEN, or youth work are a bonus but not essential

Why Join Us?

Competitive daily rates and consistent work

Opportunity to make a genuine difference in young people's lives

Supportive team and leadership

Ongoing professional development opportunities

If you are ready to make a real impact in a school where your support truly matters, we'd love to hear from you.
